LKCMedicine inaugural batch of doctors attend SMC Physician’s Pledge Affirmation Ceremony
On September 29, the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) held its Physician’s Pledge Affirmation Ceremony where 430 registered doctors including LKCMedicine’s inaugural batch of doctors, recited the SMC Physician Pledge. LKCMedicine graduate Dr Moses Ko was invited to lead in the recitation of the Physician's Pledge. The event, which took place at the NUS Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, was attended by 120 guests comprising SMC members and senior doctors from the medical fraternity. 

LKCMedicine welcomes the 7th PhD Programme Student Cohort
On January 9, the 7th cohort of PhD students was welcomed at the PhD Programme Orientation Day held at the Clinical Sciences Building. PhD Programme Director Professor Philip Ingham FRS, who is also the Toh Kian Chui Distinguished Professor and Professor of Developmental Biology, gave the students an overview of what is in store for them during their time in the programme. He introduced the key highlights such as Lab Rotation, Global Health Awareness Attachment and Clinical Awareness Attachment. This was followed by an address from the Assistant Dean for Research and Associate Professor Exercise Physiology Fabian Lim. A/Prof Lim emphasised the importance of research integrity so as to ensure high-quality and robust practice across the full research process. Representatives from various departments, including Education Management, Heritage Centre and Medical Library, University Wellbeing Centre and Health & Safety, also briefed the students on administrative matters and processes with regard to the PhD programme, the library resources, student wellbeing services and safety concerns. The orientation ended with a lunch where seniors were present to interact and mingle with the new students.


LKCMedicine spreads festive joy to patients
On February 12, 20 LKCMedicine staff and students joined NHG staff in the annual Chinese New Year Community Outreach event at Ren Ci Community Hospital. The volunteers spread joy and laughter to the patients at the hospital through music and the distribution of Chinese New Year goodies. The patients and volunteers also had the opportunity to interact and get to know one another during this meaningful afternoon.


Global Young Scientists Summit participants visit LKCMedicine
On January 23, LKCMedicine hosted 23 participants from the 2019 Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) programme, comprising brilliant young scientists and researchers under the age of 35 from prestigious universities around the world. LKCMedicine Vice-Dean for Faculty Affairs Professor Michael Ferenczi warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the School’s research strategy and themes. The participants also met up with Associate Professor of Behavioural Neurosciences Suresh Jesuthasan who presented on Understanding Emotions Using Zebrafish followed by National Research Foundation Fellow and Nanyang Assistant Professor Foo Jia Nee who spoke about neurodegenerative diseases within our DNA code.  The visit concluded with a tour of the Clinical Sciences Building.

LKCMedicine outreach to tertiary students
On January 17, LKCMedicine hosted 90 students and teachers from the Victoria-Cedar Alliance Integrated Programme (VCA IP) at the Experimental Medicine Building. The programme introduced the VCA, comprising Victoria School, Cedar Girls’ Secondary School and Victoria Junior College, to the broad range of tertiary and career opportunities after the completion of GCE A-Level examinations. LKCMedicine Assistant Dean for Year 4 & Family Medicine Associate Professor Wong Teck Yee welcomed the visitors and gave an overview of the School’s admission criteria, unique pedagogy, facilities, as well as what it takes to pursue a career in medicine. The visit included a TBL demo, after which the students were hosted to a lunch. 

On January 22, LKCMedicine hosted 30 participants from the 11th International Science Youth Forum (ISYF) at CSB. The participants, who were pre-university students from Singapore, the US, China, Estonia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and South Korea, took part in a TBL class, conducted by LKCMedicine Senior Lecturer in Medical Education and Lead for Educational Development & TBL Facilitation Dr Preman Rajalingam at the CSB Learning Studio. Through the demonstration, the participants had first-hand experience of the School’s innovative, technology-enhanced approach to teaching. The participants then proceeded to the Practical Skills Laboratory, where, guided by Senior Assistant Director and Lead for Practical Skills Ms Ramani Saravanan, they played games which tested their ability to focus when faced with time constraints and distractions. A stop at the Anatomy Learning Centre then took place, followed by a tour of the rest of the Novena Campus.
