Maintaining a healthy brain

By Kimberley Wang, Editor, The LKCMedicine

In Singapore, one in 10 people aged 60 and above has dementia. To increase awareness about how cognitive disorders such as mild cognitive impairment and dementia can be affected by the health of our blood vessels, LKCMedicine’s Dementia Research Centre (Singapore) held its inaugural Cognition Awareness Day for the public on 23 February. Highlights include preliminary findings from the Biomarker and Cognitive Impairment Study and practical strategies to maintain a healthy brain.

At the same time, we celebrate the conferment of National Awards (COVID-19) to the LKCMedicine community in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Singapore’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the achievements of our students and alumnus who did the School proud.

This issue also puts the spotlight on new research findings on mental health chatbots that are effective in helping treat symptoms in people with depression and how the brain solves new problems.

Happy reading!
