Students’ Take: Student Research Excellence at Research Symposium 2026

From lively poster discussions to thought-provoking keynote insights, the LKCMedicine Research Symposium 2026 brought the School’s research community together for an evening of discovery, dialogue, and inspiration.
Held on 25 March 2026 at the Novena Campus and organised by the 13th Students' Medical Society Research Committee, the annual flagship event showcased the depth and diversity of student-led research while reinforcing a vibrant culture of inquiry across LKCMedicine. Students, faculty, and partners gathered to exchange ideas, celebrate achievements, and explore the evolving role of research in shaping future healthcare.
The symposium welcomed the full student body, research faculty, invited judges, and distinguished guests. Proceedings began with a lively poster showcase featuring submissions from multiple cohorts. Presenters engaged actively with faculty judges and peers, discussing their methodologies, findings, and the broader implications of their work. For many, this segment also provided a valuable opportunity to gain experience presenting research in a supportive environment.
The formal programme began with a welcome address by Research Head Mr Daniel Tang, who expressed appreciation to the organising committee, contributors, and participants. This was followed by a faculty opening address from Associate Professor Faith Chia, LKCMedicine’s Vice-Dean for Education, setting the academic tone for the evening.
Professor Benjamin Seet, Guest of Honour, delivered an address encouraging students to stay curious, adaptable, and committed to meaningful research.
The symposium was honoured by the presence of Guest of Honour Professor Benjamin Seet, Group Chairman Medical Board (Research) at the National Healthcare Group (NHG), and an Adjunct Professor on LKCMedicine’s Governing Board. He delivered an inspiring address reflecting on growth in research and encouraged students to remain open to learning, pursue meaningful questions, and embrace adaptability and curiosity in their academic journeys.

A series of oral presentations followed, divided into Scholarly Project (SP) and General Track categories. SP presenters shared rigorous accounts of their six-week research attachments, while General Track presenters showcased projects undertaken beyond the formal curriculum, reflecting strong initiative and enthusiasm. Across both tracks, judges commended the clarity, innovation, and scientific rigour demonstrated.

Later in the programme, Dr Ng Qin Xiang delivered an engaging talk on navigating the publication process, building a research portfolio, and sustaining academic curiosity. His practical insights into scientific writing and peer review were particularly valuable for students preparing their first manuscripts.
A key highlight of the evening was the Awards Ceremony, recognising excellence across poster and oral presentation categories.

The symposium concluded with a networking reception where attendees continued discussions over refreshments. Students also cast votes for the Popular Poster Awards, adding an interactive element that further encouraged engagement.
