Ms Vanessa Lim Wei Jia

NTU EEE Graduand Vanessa Lim Wei Jia graduated with Bachelor of Engineering (Information Engineering and Media) with Honours (Highest Distinction). She reflects back on her time in IEM fondly and on all her favourite moments.

Vanessa enjoyed her time in EEE camps like Enitio and Induction Fiesta both as an organiser and as a participant. She said the camps brought a lot of joy and fun into her university experience and cherished other simple moments such as studying and doing group projects at the benches outside the lecture theatres at EEE. Vanessa was also happy about the course of study she had chosen. “I like it that for IEM, we got to learn a lot of different things as it is a multidisciplinary course. I also like the people here - everyone is very friendly and nice.”

Vanessa has some pretty impressive achievements on the university resume. Together with her teammate Lee Jia Wei, they emerged as winners of the Asia Region in Microsoft Imagine Cup 2022 Epic Challenge. That’s not all. Her team won the 2nd runner-up prize for the SCDF×IBM Lifesavers' Innovation Challenge: Call for Code 2020. She was also a recipient of the College of Engineering scholarship and was awarded the EEE Excellence award.

Vanessa is thankful to have very caring and involved professors who helped guide her through the uncertainties of the Covid-19 pandemic and kept students engaged even during the virtual semesters. She has some words of wisdom for her juniors: “It is important to make friends in university as the journey can get quite tough and friends can be your pillar of support. As you go through the different modules, try to figure out what you like and what you don't like so that you can have a clearer understanding of what kind of jobs you would like to pursue in the future” she said.
