Mr Leow Cong Sheng

NTU EEE Graduand Leow Cong Sheng graduates with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic Engineering), Honours (Highest Distinction). He reflects on his time in EEE, where he was  involved in numerous student activities, both as a participant and an organiser.

The one thing Cong Sheng liked about NTUEEE is the wide range of opportunities available for students to explore and develop beyond the curriculum. Some of these opportunities he enjoyed include research, tinkering in Garage@EEE, a student-led makerspace and learning more about artificial intelligence in MLDA@EEE. Some of his favourite activities in NTUEEE come from his involvement in some of the student clubs such as the outreach committee, Garage@EEE, and MLDA@EEE. While the nature of the activities differs in these clubs, he said he enjoyed the company and collaboration with fellow friends and peers from all walks of life in these clubs.

Leow Cong Sheng

His most memorable experience was the Technological Study Trip to Silicon Valley as a committee member of EEE outreach where he got to learn more about the perspectives of EEE alumni and technical experts from start-ups and technology giants such as Google and Apple. Additionally, sharing what he learned through workshops in MLDA@EEE, mentoring in Garage@EEE and helping to organize a technological-focused camp for prospective students were some of his memorable experiences at NTUEEE.

Cong Sheng is known to be very academically inclined. He matriculated into NTU as a Nanyang Scholar with the CN Yang Scholars Programme in 2018. He took part in and won some hackathons within and outside NTU while juggling school and volunteer work. He also won a research award in 2019 at the CY1400 CNYSP Undergraduate Research Experience. His team then won first prize in the Amazon-ing land Transport Challenge (Garage@EEE & MLDA@EEE) and the MLDA Deep Learning Week Hackathon in 2020 and made the Dean’s List in 2021.

He particularly gives thanks to his favourite faculty member and academic mentor, Prof Gwee Bah Hwee, for his support and motivation throughout the four years. Cong Sheng has some final words of wisdom to his juniors and incoming freshmen: “Manage your time well and do not be afraid to take on any opportunities available to explore and discover your interests!”
