Prof Joseph Chang Elected as National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow Class of 2025

Prof Joseph NAI Award 2025

Professor Joseph Chang has been elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the highest professional honour awarded to inventors in the United States.

Prof Chang is the only NAI Fellow from NTU EEE, and one of only three NAI Fellows at NTU.

He also holds a courtesy appointment with NTU’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), where he contributes to interdisciplinary advances in engineering and medical technologies.

Prof Chang is one of only two academics in Singapore listed among the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) 75th Anniversary “200 Distinguished Contributors,” a global accolade honouring individuals who have significantly shaped the field.

Reflecting on his election, Prof Chang said:

“Doing impactful academic research is deeply rewarding, but witnessing some of that work translated into real-world technology is even more fulfilling… It is especially exciting to see those inventions adopted in commercial hardware and by an NTU spin-off, and deployed both on Earth and in space—including in Lunar and an asteroid missions.”

Prof Chang’s research spans integrated circuit design, sensing systems, and advanced instrumentation. His patented technologies have been adopted in commercial systems, start-up ventures, and international space missions—demonstrating both scientific excellence and global relevance.

NTU EEE congratulates Professor Chang on this outstanding achievement and celebrates his contributions to innovation, research leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
