Choosing to study EEE at NTU was driven by my desire to go for a programme that combines a solid technical foundation with real-world application and interdisciplinary exploration. NTU EEE offered exactly that.
Throughout my studies, I have had the opportunity to work on rigorous and engaging coursework—from mastering circuit design and control systems to exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. A particularly impactful academic project was when my team members and I applied clustering algorithms to analyse Netflix viewer data, uncovering patterns to improve content recommendations.
My student life has been truly fulfilling—from participating in an Overseas Community Involvement Project in Laos, where we installed lights and fans in rural schools, to gaining global exposure through the UCL Summer School. At UCL, I worked on real-world data analytic problems. It broadened my technical skills and exposed me to diverse global perspectives. NTU EEE has prepared me not just with technical proficiency, but leadership, teamwork, and adaptability, skills essential for today’s fast-evolving world.
My advice to prospective students: make the most of every opportunity NTU offers. Step outside your comfort zone, whether it’s through research, overseas programs, or student clubs. You’ll grow in ways you never imagined.
I chose to study at NTU EEE for its wide range of academic pathways and specialisation options in the senior years. After completing my first year, I have found the environment to be both supportive and enriching, with approachable professors and seniors who readily offer academic guidance.
Hall life has been a memorable part of my journey, allowing me to connect with friends from diverse backgrounds. Late-night supper sessions have become a true highlight of campus living.
Currently, I’m working on a project assessing the effectiveness of Team-Based Learning in a postgraduate engineering course on Natural Language Processing. Although it was unfamiliar at first, the experience has been extremely rewarding, thanks to the support of my mentor, Dr Supraja, and my fellow undergraduate peers. Their guidance has helped me navigate the steep learning curve. This project reflects how NTU EEE equips students with both a strong theoretical foundation and practical, real-world skills.
Beyond academics, I serve as the Outreach Innovation Director in NTU EEE Outreach, working closely with the Vice President to execute outreach initiatives. Engaging with prospective students has been a meaningful experience, giving me the chance to share authentic insights and inspire future juniors to join the EEE community.
Having had interest in art and technology, I was first drawn to NTU EEE due to the Information Engineering & Media (IEM) programme, and its novel blend of these two seemingly different fields.
The modules I have taken so far have been fulfilling and eye-opening; they have given me a good grasp of technical skills and exposed me to media and design. In an rapidly developing world, I strongly believe that these will be vital for the future. Through these modules, I am able to further my passion in various areas, while making connections between them.
I have also had the opportunity to explore interests beyond the curriculum. NTU EEE is home to many student clubs, each catering to a different interest, so there's something for everyone! As a member of Garage@EEE and EEELead, I have been able to try my hand at new experiences, such as event photography, tinkering, and organising local community work events. These clubs, and NTU EEE as a whole, have offered me a strong support network of like-minded individuals with whom I can share my ideas, seniors who have much to teach in terms of skills and experience, and friends whom I can rely on.
I chose to study at NTU EEE because of its versatility and well-structured curriculum. The strong academic foundation in the first two years exposed me to various aspects of EEE, helping me better understand my interests and career path. It was also reassuring to know that the curriculum strikes a balance between hardware and software, ensuring our skills remain relevant in today’s evolving tech landscape.
Beyond academics, NTU EEE offers a vibrant student life. With diverse faculty clubs and numerous initiatives, there are plenty of opportunities to meet new people. I joined multiple student clubs, where I met some of my closest university friends—people I have studied and grown with throughout my time here.
NTU also encourages global exposure through semester exchanges and overseas community involvement projects (OCIP). I was fortunate to have joined an OCIP trip to Laos, and I’m excited to be heading to National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan this fall for my semester exchange. There are so many opportunities at NTU, and I strongly encourage incoming freshmen to take full advantage of them!
When I first chose NTU EEE, it was because of the unique IEM (Information Engineering and Media) programme that stood out to me. I have always been interested in tech, but I also wanted room to be creative and IEM gave me that balance.
What made the experience truly special was how diverse the learning was. I got to explore modules from not just EEE but also ADM, SCSE, WKWSCI, which allowed me to see technology from different perspectives. One of the most memorable parts of my journey was the Design and Innovation Project in Year 3, where I worked closely with peers to bring ideas to life. It taught me the value of collaboration and hands-on learning.
Beyond academics, being part of NTU EEE Outreach gave me my first sense of community and purpose. I found great friends and had the chance to share my own journey with prospective students.
NTU EEE is more than a just school, it is a place full of opportunities. Be open, take chances, and you will find your own path here just like I found mine.
What drew me to IEM was its truly interdisciplinary nature. The curriculum seamlessly blends core electrical and electronic engineering knowledge with media and design principles. I especially enjoyed the art and media modules as they offered a refreshing contrast to the technical rigor of our engineering courses, giving me room for creativity and expression, and fun with my friends.
The School of EEE has also given me exciting global exposure opportunities. In May/June 2024, I joined the Technological Study Trip (TST) to Hong Kong and Shenzhen, visiting leading companies such as BYD, Oyika, and Orbbec, and engaging with students and faculty from top universities like The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and CUHK (Shenzhen). The trip broadened my understanding of Asia’s dynamic tech landscape and cutting-edge innovation.
The School of EEE actively supports students in gaining global perspectives. Many of my peers have embarked on semester-long exchanges across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. Thank you for the opportunity to attend a 3-week summer programme at UC Berkeley, USA, under the GEM Discoverer Summer Studies initiative. I am grateful to have received the EEE Partial Financial Assistance Grant to help offset living expenses. I look forward to expanding my horizons and embracing what it means to be a global citizen!
As a EEE student at NTU, student life was extremely vibrant, enjoyable and meaningful. The environment constantly motivated me to grow not just academically but personally as well. The majority of people I interacted with in the EEE community, including my peers, professors, and staff, were very friendly and helpful, making the EEE culture wholesome!
NTU offers various opportunities, including student exchanges, CCAs, and competitions. One of the most memorable parts of my time in EEE was joining Garage@EEE — a student-led makerspace club that organises flagship events and technical workshops. I was part of the main committee as a Training and Development (TND) Director and the ESCENDO technical team. I had the honour of organising and facilitating workshops such as Arduino Intermediate, Introduction to Microcontrollers and 3D Printing with Fusion 360. This experience honed my leadership, hands-on technical and collaboration skills, while teaching me how to manage responsibilities — crucial soft skills in the working world.
Overall, the curriculum and learning vigor in NTU EEE prepared me well with cutting-edge labs, real-world applications and solid theory. But learning never stops, we need to constantly upskill ourselves in this fast-paced tech landscape. I am grateful for the journey, challenges, fond memories, friendships, and growth. NTU EEE did not just train me as an engineer but shaped me to be a future-ready all-rounder!
