NTU EEE Professors Awarded Prestigious President’s and Provost’s Chairs

We are proud to announce the appointment of two faculty members to highly prestigious University Chairs following the 2026 President’s and Provost’s Chair evaluations, which were reviewed by the University President and Provost.

These appointments recognise exceptional academic leadership, research excellence, and sustained impact in strategically important areas of engineering and technology.

Professor Hu Guoqiang has been appointed President’s Chair in Intelligent Systems and Robotics, one of the University’s highest academic distinctions.

The appointment recognises Professor Hu’s outstanding contributions to intelligent systems, robotics, and autonomous technologies, as well as his leadership in advancing interdisciplinary research at the frontiers of engineering and artificial intelligence. As President’s Chairholder, Professor Hu is expected to provide strategic intellectual leadership, spearhead high‑impact research programmes, and strengthen NTU’s global standing in intelligent and robotic systems.

"I sincerely appreciate the recognition and support from the School, the College, and the University, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to NTU’s growth and excellence," he said.

Associate Professor Wen Bihan has been appointed Provost’s Chair in Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Computational Imaging.

This appointment acknowledges Associate Professor Wen’s internationally recognised research in image processing, AI‑enabled imaging, and computational imaging, and his contributions to advancing theory, algorithms, and applications across engineering and interdisciplinary domains. As Provost’s Chairholder, he will continue to drive innovative research, foster collaborations, and contribute to talent development within and beyond EEE.

"I am deeply honored to receive the Provost's Chair appointment, and I am committed to advancing the frontiers of physics-driven AI for computational imaging while nurturing the next generation of researchers in this field," he said.

Recognition of Excellence

The President’s and Provost’s Chairs are awarded through a rigorous evaluation process and are reserved for faculty members who demonstrate sustained excellence, leadership, and transformative impact in their fields.

The School is deeply honoured by these appointments and extends its heartiest congratulations to Professor Hu Guoqiang and Associate Professor Wen Bihan on this significant milestone in their academic careers.
