SPMS Distinguished Educator Award

To recognise and reward our faculty and teaching associates for their impact in teaching, the SPMS Distinguished Educator Award (DEA) will be awarded to outstanding nominees each Academic Year based on a holistic set of evidence of teaching impact and a clearly articulated teaching narrative submitted by each nominee. 

Nominations are open all year round for all faculty members, teaching staff, and students to make your nominations for deserved members of our school teaching staff. All SPMS faculty members and teaching associates will be eligible for the award.

There are five categories under the DEA. Nominations can be made for one or more categories. Multiple nominations will also be accepted for different nominees.

Students may only nominate faculty members and teaching associates under the category “Care and Commitment in Teaching”.

The five categories are:

1. Excellence in Innovative Teaching Practice
• Use of novel pedagogical tools or approaches with clear educational justification
• Documented impact on student engagement or understanding.
• Willingness to experiment responsibly and iterate.

2. Care and Commitment in Teaching
• Meaningful engagement with students that supports their academic growth and well-being.
• Consistent preparation, timely feedback, and follow-through that exemplify professionalism and care.
• Going beyond minimum expectations to support quality learning experiences.

3. Excellence in Pedagogical and Assessment Design
• Curriculum coherence, constructive alignment, and clear learning outcomes.
• Thoughtfully designed assessments that validly measure intended learning outcomes, balance formative and summative purposes, promote deep learning.
• Transparent assessment criteria that support fairness and clarity
• Evidence-based instructional and assessment strategies informed by disciplinary pedagogy and educational research.

4. Excellence in Educational Leadership
• Contributions to programme-level curriculum development.
• Leading pedagogical initiatives or mentoring colleagues.
• Service roles enhancing teaching culture and capability.

5. Excellence in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
• Research on learning and pedagogy with demonstrable impact.
• Sharing of educational insights through publications, conferences and other platforms.

Nominated faculty members and teaching associates will be contacted separately on your nomination and will be invited to submit a dossier for evaluation.
The window for nomination opens at the start of each academic year in Semester 1 in August, and lasts till the end of Semester 2 in May of the next calendar year.

Submission of dossiers should also be made within this window. All submissions will be peer reviewed by a panel comprising the SPMS Education and Pedagogy Development team, invited SPMS faculty (without any conflicts of interest) and an invited external expert.

Winners of the SPMS Distinguished Educator Award for each academic year will be announced at the subsequent SPMS Pedagogy Day.
