Inspiring Stories, Aspiring Futures: Classroom to Careers 2025
Mapping Your Next Steps: From Classroom To Career 2025 was held at the SHHK Conference Room on 12 February 2025.
Spearheaded by Dr. Ritu Jain, SoH Assistant Chair for Careers and Attachment, the annual event invites undergraduate SoH students to understand more about the value of a humanities education through a panel session comprising of industry professionals and hiring managers. At the end of the session, attendees can chat with the speakers at a networking lunch.
The invited speakers this year were:
- Ms. Ritu Chaudhari, Recruiter, Access People
- Ms. Jolene Ng, Industry Manager, Google
- Mr. Jordan Price, Regional Head of Planning, Publicis Singapore
The moderator for the discussion was Dr. Ritu Jain.
With three overarching themes of Skills Transition, Future Trends, and Preparedness, the speakers shared about their own experiences finding their footing after graduation. Mr Price, a Philosophy and English Literature major from Canada, told the audience his journey of starting as an English teacher in Japan, before eventually stepping into the advertising an public relations sphere, where he has been for the past 30 years. Ms Ng, a Communication Sciences alumna from NTU, shared tips on how she converted her internship role into her first job, while Ms Chaudhari discussed the importance of designing your resume to stand out amongst the hundreds of applications for a single opening.
The audience were very engaged and a number of questions were raised, ranging from entering a specific industry different from your major, to how one can cinch a role even with a language barrier. The speakers shared their personal experiences candidly, while encouraging students to keep trying.
The event ended with a networking lunch where the students could interact with the speakers to learn more.
