Nanyang Assistant Professor, School of Humanities
The Nanyang Assistant Professorship (NAP) scheme provides an opportunity for outstanding early-career researchers and scholars from Singapore and around the world, who wish to build an academic career with us at NTU. Successful NAP awardees will be offered a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment and awarded a substantial start-up grant to lay the foundation for their research work at the university.

The Nanyang Assistant/Associate Professorship (NAP) provides an exceptional opportunity for outstanding early-career researchers and scholars from Singapore and around the world who aspire to research leadership roles in the emerging field of Medical Humanities. Successful awardees will be appointed to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position and receive a substantial start-up grant (SUG) to develop independent and impactful research programmes within the university.
NTU has a growing community of scholars working at the interface of health, culture, and society, spanning disciplines such as literature, history, philosophy, anthropology, communication, and art. The University seeks to strengthen its leadership in this interdisciplinary field, which explores how illness, care, and medical practice are shaped by social, cultural, ethical, and narrative dimensions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be early-career researchers, holding a PhD obtained within the last 10 years.
We welcome applications from scholars working in areas such as (but not limited to):
- History, philosophy, or ethics of medicine and health
- Narrative medicine and illness writing
- Cultural or visual studies of health, disability, and the body
- Bioethics, global health humanities, or environmental health humanities
- Intersections of digital technology, AI, and health narratives
- Health communication and public understanding of science
- A strong record of early research achievements and publication in leading journals or presses;
- The potential to lead an independent and interdisciplinary research group;
- A clear vision for advancing the field of medical humanities within NTU’s research ecosystem.
Eligibility extends to both new external applicants and NTU Faculty (not yet at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor) who have joined within the last 12 months or within 3 years after PhD, whichever comes later.
