The past few months have been filled with farewells and fresh starts.

The Class of 2023 celebrated the culmination of five years of learning and growth at their Convocation ceremony. To further commemorate their achievements over the years, the School brought together its alumni and graduands for a prize presentation and an evening of good cheer and food.

While it is bittersweet to bid our students adieu, this month signals the start of the 10th cohort’s journey with LKCMedicine. A first-year student shares her aspirations and excitement about pursuing her medical education at the School.

It is not just about welcoming new medical students. There are new learning opportunities for our students to leverage on, with the School recently introducing Paediatric Medicine into its Student Assistantship Programme. Two newly graduated doctors reflect on their experience and how it has helped them transition from students to junior doctors. Keeping in line with the theme of new beginnings, LKCMedicine Vice-Dean (Education) Professor Jennifer Cleland and Assistant Dean (Admissions & Overseas Electives) Associate Professor Kwek Tong Kiat comment on the inclusion of the UCAT in the School’s admission process and the transitioning of the School’s joint MBBS programme to an independent NTU programme in 2028, respectively.

This issue also features LKCMedicine’s upcoming International Conference on AI in Medicine, as well as new research on the impact of visceral fat on our cognitive ability, and the answer to an age-old debate about the development of our paired arms and legs.

Happy reading!
