Nurturing Future-Ready Doctors

By Sanjay Devaraja, Editor, The LKCMedicine

At LKCMedicine, we are committed to reshaping the future of medicine, not only in its practice and delivery but also for a broader societal impact, today and tomorrow. In this regard, it is crucial that the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine meets the learning needs of future doctors, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality healthcare in an ever-evolving landscape. In other words, we nurture our students to be not just future-ready doctors, but also doctors you and I would like caring for us.

In this issue, we spotlight the financial schemes made available to current and incoming students to support them as they spread their wings at home and abroad. Vice-Dean (Education) Professor Jennifer Cleland highlights how the Education team has worked on enhancing the curriculum for the upcoming academic years, marking the start of the NTU Singapore's independent medical degree in AY2024-25. In line with LKCMedicine's focus on co-creation and community engagement, she also shares how the MBBS curriculum has also been refreshed in consultation with students and alumni.

We also speak to Associate Professor Tan Boon Huan, who mentored two junior college students for their Nanyang Research Programme (NRP) project, which began in April 2023. This is LKCMedicine’s first NRP collaboration with junior college students as part of NTU’s research outreach programme.
