FAQs
General
The scope of sports medicine practice has expanded beyond sports-related injuries to include prevention of common chronic diseases and treatment of general musculoskeletal injuries, which are particularly common in older people.
Aimed primarily at SMC-registered medical doctors, the programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently perform pre-participation screening for sports and exercise, manage general and sports-related musculoskeletal injuries in the primary care setting, and provide medical support for sports programmes and events, among others.
Endorsed by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), graduates of the GDSM can display the title in their clinics to attest to the additional skills they possess.
The "Sports Physician" designation refers to specialists registered with the Specialist Accreditation Board and SMC. These doctors are required to complete a formal three-year Advanced Subspecialty Training programme. The GDSM is not a specialist qualification and successful candidates are not allowed to use this title.
Yes, 50 CME points (non-core points will be awarded to non-Sports Medicine specialist) will be awarded to SMC-registered doctors who have successfully completed the programme (with 25 points at end December and remaining 25 points upon successfully completing the programme the following year).
