Symposium Synopsis
As artificial intelligence reshapes Information Literacy in Medical Education, the Library Symposium 2026 invites you to reimagine how libraries are guiding ethical innovation and promoting digital literacy.
Libraries Reimagined: Guiding Integrity and Literacy in the AI Era, hosted by the Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, is a half-day event bringing together educators, medical students, research experts, librarians, and information professionals to discuss the challenges and opportunities of AI in academia.
Information literacy now extends beyond evaluating sources to mastering AI tools, ethical data use, and critical engagement with generative technologies. The symposium highlights how libraries are integrating AI into teaching and research—from GEN-AI chatbots to intelligent search systems—enhancing learning while redefining authorship and integrity.

Opening Address Speaker
Dr Serene Ng
Chief Operating Officer, LKCMedicine, NTU
Dr. Serene Ng Boon Ching is an accomplished leader with extensive experience in driving operational excellence and strategic transformation. As Chief Operating Officer, Serene oversees core business functions, ensuring efficiency, innovation, and sustainable growth across the organization. With a proven track record in driving strategic transformation and organisational development, Serene focuses on creating an environment where individuals/teams thrive and the organization scales sustainably, to deliver impactful outcomes that advance long-term success.
With 20 years of experience in multinational corporations and higher education, Serene brings expertise in strategic leadership, organisational development and innovation. She holds a PhD in Management from Australian National University. Her leadership philosophy emphasises resilience, continuous improvement, and community engagement in advancing medical education and research.

Keynote Speaker
Ms Caroline Pang
University Librarian, Nanyang Technological University
Caroline Pang is the University Librarian at Nanyang Technological University. She has over 25 years of experience in the library field. She has had the opportunities to set-up new libraries including the Tanoto Library, INSEAD, Asia Campus and the Medical Library, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU Singapore.
Caroline was awarded the Professional Service Award (2017) from Library Association of Singapore and the Nanyang Awards (Teamwork) from NTU in 2016. Recently, she led her teams to win 3 awards at the Administration Excellence Awards 2023 from NTU. She was conferred the Public Administration Medal (Silver) National Day Award in 2023.
Caroline is on the Board of Directors, International Association of University Libraries, representing the Asia Pacific region and several advisory boards including EBSCO and Wiley.

Associate Professor Natalie Pang
University Librarian, National University Singapore
Dr Natalie Pang is University Librarian at NUS Libraries, as well as Head at the Department of Communications and New Media at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Other than leading NUS Libraries, she actively contributes to research and teaching in the areas of digital citizenship and digital humanities at NUS.
She is involved in international academic communities in library and information science and has served as chair of the programming committee for the Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), as a steering committee member for the International Conference on Digital Preservation (iPres), and as a steering committee member for the International Conference on Asia-Pacific Digital Libraries (ICADL).

Ms Shameem Nilofar Maideen
University Librarian, Singapore Management University
As University Librarian, Shameem Nilofar, leads a high performing team in driving and delivering library service innovation that positively impacts the community they serve. A firm believer of non-linear career paths with a profile spanning multiple industries first as a computer engineer and then as a librarian, she has held various portfolios and has been a key driving force behind numerous initiatives that has transformed the library into a dynamic and active partner in the learning and research process.
Her notable achievements at SMU Libraries include spearheading the planning and opening of the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library, transforming the Li Ka Shing Library into a modern and cutting-edge collaborative learning space, and expanding its digital-first collection and services. Shameem has represented SMU in regional and global associations such as the International Association of Technological University Libraries (IATUL) and is the current Chair of the Asean University Network of Libraries (AUNILO) and serves as the President of the Library Association of Singapore (LAS).

Mr Chia Yew Boon
Deputy Director, Office of Information, Knowledge and Library Services
Nanyang Technological University
As Deputy Director of the Knowledge Services Division at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Library, he leads strategic initiatives that foster deeper faculty engagement, promote Open Education, and advance the adoption of AI technologies. He plays a pivotal role in enhancing NTU’s research visibility through the curation of academic profiles and the innovative application of large language models. Currently, he is spearheading the rollout of an AI and digital literacy programme designed to equip library and other NTU administrative staff with essential AI competencies. This initiative aims to empower them to confidently navigate and thrive in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

Ms Rebecca David
Senior Medical Librarian, Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University
Rebecca is a senior medical librarian at the Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library, where she leads educational and research support services. She champions information literacy in teaching, learning, and research. Through a collaborative grant, Rebecca pioneered the development of a customised five-year information literacy framework for medical students, embedded in the MBBS Scientific Enquiry and Evidence-Based Medicine (SEEM) curriculum, positioning her as the Information Literacy Lead and content expert.
Rebecca supports students in scholarly research and is faculty-selected to collaborate on systematic reviews and meta-analyses, reflecting her expertise in evidence-based research and information literacy. She extends this experience to curriculum design and educational research, having co-led the NTU EdeX and National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine grants, and was recognized as Best Presenter at the 14th International Conference on Higher Education, Research, and Knowledge. She now leads AI literacy initiatives on chatbots with a multidisciplinary team at LKCMedicine and presented at 2025 LILAC and 2024 WONCA Asia Pacific Regional conferences.

Ms Yasmin Lynda Munro
Senior Librarian, Academic Engagement
Nanyang Technological University
Yasmin is a senior librarian from NTU library and a former senior medical librarian at the Sim Hoay Cheok – Sim Foundation Library. Since 2017, she has been the service lead for Systematic Search Services – a dedicated library consultation service for the LKCMedicine community.
She frequently collaborates with users in developing search methodologies for their publications. As a specialist in literature searches for biomedical and health sciences research topics, Yasmin is a co-author of over 16 published papers and acknowledged in over 39 publications to date.

Chief Librarian, National Institute of Education
Jacky Wong is the Chief Librarian at the National Institute of Education, where he works with a passionate and dedicated team to continuously create value for users and stakeholders through innovation, connection, and impact. Deeply committed to supporting faculty and users, he enjoys collaborating with them to experiment, create, and reimagine what the library can be in a changing world of education and learning.

Ms Sandie Loo Hong Ling
Senior Librarian, Digital Library Services
National Institute of Education
Sandie Loo Hong Ling is a Senior Librarian (Digital Library Services) at the National Institute of Education Library, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She has been actively involved in collaborative projects that explore the use of virtual reality (VR) in teaching and learning, working with educators to integrate immersive technologies into educational practice. Her work also focuses on digital innovation, automation, and outreach initiatives that enhance library services and promote meaningful engagement with technology in education.

Ms Ow Tsin Li Stephanie
Librarian, National Institute of Education
Stephanie is a dedicated library professional with over 15 years of experience in scholarly communications and digital library services at the National Institute of Education (NIE). She recently collaborated with the NIE Publications Launch Committee to design an engaging website, enhancing user experience. Passionate about immersive learning, Stephanie has managed the end-to-end development of virtual reality (VR) projects, liaising with various teams to deliver high-quality VR modules and training for both staff and student teachers. Her workshops have equipped participants with essential skills in creating interactive digital content. Additionally, she contributes to library scholarship through articles and collaborative archival projects, ensuring the preservation and accessibility of valuable collections while promoting digital literacy and research visibility.

Ms Jenny Wong
Senior Librarian, Learning and Research Services
Singapore Institute of Technology
Jenny leads the Learning and Research Services team at SIT Library, bringing over a decade of experience in academic libraries. She has played a key role in integrating information and digital literacy into the undergraduate curriculum, empowering students with vital research and critical thinking skills for both academic and professional success.
As part of SIT’s Industry-Ready Skills Framework (IRSF) committee, Jenny contributed to developing a framework aimed at preparing students with valuable transferable skills, supporting workplace readiness and lifelong learning.
