Embedded Library Services

The LKCMedicine Medical Library team is on hand to clarify any information needs and recommend suitable resources.

The Medical Library collaborate with faculty and teach Information Literacy (IL) which is embedded within the undergraduate curriculum. Our trained Medical Librarians conduct an IL workshop for year 1 students and co-facilitate Team-Based Learning (TBL) sessions for years 2 and 3 students. IL is embedded within the Scientific Enquiry & Evidence based Medicine (SEEM) modules of the MBBS programme to enable medical students to develop fundamental IL skills when undertaking scientific research projects. 

The embedded IL teaching and learning across years 1, 2 and 3 SEEM curriculum is as follows:

• For Year 1 SEEM Module: Introduction to information literacy 
o Workshop 
o Pre-Test --> Theory --> case story discussion --> PubMed database activity --> Post-Test
o Immediate feedback 
• For Year 2 SEEM Module: EBM processes and concepts 
o TBL session  
o Pre-class reading --> Individual Readiness Assurance Test (IRAT) --> Team Readiness Assurance Test (TRAT) --> Application Exercise (AE): database search activity
o Immediate feedback 
• Year 3 SEEM Module: Critical appraisal of a diagnostic accuracy study 
o TBL session  
o PubMed & Cochrane Library Database demonstration search (systematic reviews)
o Immediate feedback
