The Times Higher Education: Adults bring experience and cognitive strengths to lifelong learning

An article by the Times Higher Education highlights research on the different cognitive strengths and experiences adults use in their lifelong learning. This research is a collaborated effort by Dr Sally Ng, Dr Adam John Privitera, and Professor Annabel Chen at NTU.

Lifelong learning is turning essential as labour markets shift and populations change age. Governments are promoting reskilling through subsidised programmes, while universities are creating flexible, specialised courses for working adults and other nonconventional students.

To support this growing group of non-traditional learners, educators must adapt their teaching, recognising that older students bring different cognitive strengths and life experience than their traditional counterparts. Insights from the science of learning can guide effective practices for increasingly age-diverse classrooms.

Their article summarizes the research done at NTU to give evidence-based insights on how schools, educators, and learners can embrace an inclusive approach to lifelong learning. To learn more, read the article here!
