Plasma-Wall Interactions in EAST Tokamak

Abstract
=======
Plasma-Wall Interactions (PWI) is one of the key issues in fusion devices, especially for future fusion reactors with high performance and steady-state plasma operations. PWI determine the life time of Plasma-Facing Components (PFCs), impact the performance of plasmas, and govern the tritium cycle by retention. As PFCs in EAST tokamak have been upgraded to tungsten (W), W erosion and transport becomes important and have a significant impact on the long-pulse operation. This talk will present an overview of recent experimental and modeling results on PWI studies in EAST tokamak. New experiments on boronization, W limiter startup and impact of W wall on H-mode operation provide important implications to ITER with full W wall.

About the Speaker
===============
Rui Ding received his Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) in 2010. Then He did Postdoc at General Atomics in USA. He is now professor and director of tokamak physics experiment division at ASIPP. He currently serves as the chair of EAST experimental committee, a member of the ITPA Divertor and Scrape-Off-Layer Topical Group, and an ITER Scientist Fellow. His research focuses on magnetic confinement fusion and plasma-wall interactions.
