YUANSHENG LI, Class of 2025
I chose NTU’s Master of Arts in Linguistics (MALing) programme for its strong emphasis on applying linguistic theories to real-world issues and its interdisciplinary approach, integrating psychology, sociology, and computational linguistics. Being part of the inaugural cohort has been incredibly rewarding. My classmates come from diverse academic backgrounds, fostering rich discussions that challenge and expand my understanding of linguistics.
Our professors, with PhDs from prestigious institutions such as Stanford and Harvard, are not only highly knowledgeable but also exceptionally supportive. The programme also equips us with practical skills in Python and statistics, which I find particularly valuable for linguistic data analysis and research. With NTU’s Linguistics and Multilingual Studies ranked 23rd globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, this programme has significantly strengthened my academic and career prospects.
Studying in Singapore’s multilingual environment has provided firsthand insights into language use and diversity. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to serve as a student assistant to Professor Lin Jingxia, which has sharpened my analytical and critical thinking skills, making me more competitive in fields such as media, healthcare, education, and AI.
