NTU to join EMA’s regulatory sandbox to pilot Virtual Power Plant technologies in Singapore

At the Singapore International Energy Week 2025, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) has announced the pilot of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Regulatory Sandbox to aggregate Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as solar PV systems and energy storage across the island to participate in the Singapore Wholesale Energy Market.

ERI@N is excited to be selected as one of the participants under EMA's VPP Sandbox initiative. Our project, titled the TrueVPP Sandbox, will serve as a living testbed for virtual power plant innovation. Running over two years, the Sandbox will test the technical and operational capabilities of VPPs in providing energy and ancillary services to Singapore’s grid. ERI@N will be working with industry partners TCS, Siix-Orient, VFlowTech, Hitachi, Gridwiz and Equiwatt to test how VPPs can enhance grid flexibility and resilience.

By enabling greater flexibility and participation in the energy market, TrueVPP supports Singapore’s transition towards a resilient, low-carbon energy future and fosters an ecosystem where innovation and sustainability thrive.
