WKWSCI Panel Examines Misinformation and Information Resilience at Ideas Festival 2026

On 17 March 2026, the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) hosted a panel discussion as part of Ideas Festival 2026, bringing together experts to examine the growing challenges of misinformation in today’s digital landscape.

The session featured Prof Dion Goh, Asst Prof Yuan Wang, Dr Lee Chu Keong, and Assoc Prof Saifuddin Ahmed, who shared insights into how misinformation spreads across different domains, including health communication, political discourse, and the ways knowledge is shared and managed online.

Drawing on their respective areas of expertise, the panellists explored why misinformation continues to persist despite increased public awareness. Factors such as cognitive biases, platform dynamics, and the rapid circulation of content were highlighted as key drivers that enable false or misleading information to spread widely.

The discussion also examined emerging research in fact-checking, verification practices, and media literacy, offering practical perspectives on how individuals and communities can better navigate increasingly complex information environments.

A central theme of the session was the importance of building information resilience. The panellists emphasised the need for individuals to develop the ability to critically assess information, question sources, and engage more responsibly in digital spaces.

Beyond this panel, WKWSCI faculty also contributed to other sessions across Ideas Festival 2026, contributing to discussions on how people, communities, and systems can adapt and thrive amid technological, cultural, and societal change, in line with the theme of this year’s festival.
