NTU female graduate visited Jordan three times to aid refugees

NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information graduate Esna Ong has three volunteering stints in Jordan and hopes to continue aiding Middle East refugees. This year, NTU has 9400 graduands. NTU Chancellor and Singapore President Halimah Yacob presided over the first convocation ceremony yesterday. NTU also conferred honorary doctorates on Mrs Margaret Lien and Sir Keith O’Nions. In his speech, besides commending the university’s progress and congratulating graduands, NTU President Prof Subra Suresh mentioned a new tradition—the PhD Hooding Ceremony. Lam Bhan, PhD graduate from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, said the hooding ceremony recognised that the completion of the PhD programme is no easy feat and carries responsibilities. He said, “When my PhD supervisor Prof Gan Woon Seng donned my hood, it was more heartfelt and has added significance.”
