Research found that walking 8 km weekly can decrease risk of dementia
Shin Min Daily News, 13 Feb, page 5
A study done by a US university found that walking 8 km every week can reduce the risk of dementia. To increase Singaporeans’ health awareness, NTU students are organising a walk for the elderly and their caregivers on 16 Mar. Four students from NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication & Information—Li Sufang, Zheng Zhiying, Yun Kaili and Huang Yongquan (all names in transliteration)—surveyed 94 caregivers to find out if they knew the health benefits of walking. Li Sufang said that only 4.9 per cent of those surveyed regularly walk with the elderly but even they did not know that walking helps in slowing down dementia.
