To boost citizens’ ability to spot fake news, the Media Literacy Council launches two new toolkits for teachers and students. Other initiatives under MLC include the “Better Internet x Youth Call-for-Proposals”, and a group of NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information students was among the seven groups funded under this initiative. Their project uses pictures of marine life in tips to avoid phishing. One of them, Zhuang Yongzhi (transliteration), said youths play a key role in stopping the dissemination of fake news in family group chats, but their survey showed that even youths’ awareness in this area needs to be improved.
