Pushing the Frontiers of Quantum Decomposition
Final Year Projects at SPMS challenge students to push boundaries, and Dev Verma (Year 4, Applied Physics) certainly did just that. His project benchmarked existing quantum gate decomposition tools—like IBM’s Qiskit—and took it a step further by testing whether probabilistic machine learning models could do even better. Inspired by AI chess engines, Dev taught himself Hidden Markov Models to explore uncharted territory in quantum computing, ultimately achieving promising results.
