NTU Professors appointed Principal Investigators at the Quantum Sensing Centre

NTU professors, Assoc Prof Rainer Helmut Dumke, Assoc Prof Wang Hong, and Adjunct Prof Goh Kuan Eng Johnson, were appointed as Principal Investigators at the Quantum Sensing Centre (QSC) earlier in May this year.

The QSC is a joint initiative by Ministry of Defence, Singapore and the National Quantum Office, and implemented by DSO, serves as a hub for local and global experts to advance quantum sensing technologies across five key focus areas: Cold Atom Sensors, Quantum Materials, Hot Vapour Sensors, Superconducting Sensors, and Quantum Photonics.

While quantum sensing holds transformative potential, the path to real-world application is complex and deeply multidisciplinary. At the opening ceremony, Mr. Melvyn Ong, Permanent Secretary (Defence Development), emphasised that no single entity can tackle these challenges alone. The QSC is designed as a physical nexus, bringing together talent from both local and global ecosystems to co-develop capabilities and mature critical components for quantum sensors.

Principal Investigator with deep technical expertise had been appointed to lead research and development in each focus area.

Cold Atom Sensors Assoc Prof Rainer Helmut Dumke, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Quantum Photonics Assoc Prof Wang Hong, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Quantum Materials Adjunct Prof Goh Kuan Eng Johnson, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences
