AI and Humanities

This cluster aims to foster interdisciplinary humanities research that informs and is informed by the development of AI. It facilitates collaborations between humanities and STEM researchers, for example, connecting linguists, philosophers, and historians with computer scientists, data scientists, and engineers, as well as decision-makers in AI governance. In particular, we are interested in the advancement of large language models (LLMs), their human-centered design, and multilingual, multimodal capabilities. The themes of this cluster include, but are not limited to,
- the development and deployment of AI and computational methods in humanities research;
- the combination of insights from the humanities and STEM in the design of human-centred AI, multilingual AI, and multimodal AI; and
- the incorporation of humanistic analysis into the advancement of AI ethics and safety.
The cluster builds internal and external collaborative relations with researchers at NTU and leading universities in other countries, as well as industry partners. We organize communication sessions to identify the specific collaboration needs of each party, and offer them onsite and offsite opportunities to match the needs. We also host guest lectures on the state-of-the-art research findings in AI development and the humanities.
