South Asian Studies

IDC-SE-Banner-01

This research cluster aims to initiate and sustain conversations and scholarly exchanges around topics pertaining to South Asia. It nurtures the long and historic connections between Singapore and South Asia that is reflected in the significant Indian minority of Singapore. Bringing together scholars from a variety of disciplines such as history, religion, literary studies, diaspora and transnational studies, it hopes to break down disciplinary and institutional silos and foster a more interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our plan of activities includes an academic seminar series to engage academics and public figures from within Singapore and across the globe.  Our specialised workshops and annual conference will be more thematic and targeted to both scholars as well as the wider public with an interest in South Asia.
