​LKCMedicine and SCELSE show support for children with cancer
To show their support for children with cancer and raise funds for the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF), 15 individuals went bald on 11 June at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) Clinical Sciences Building (CSB). The shavees parted with their locks at a Hair for Hope satellite event, jointly organised by LKCMedicine and the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE). The event had several fundraising points such as the sale of candy floss, popcorn, baked goods and CCF merchandise. By 5pm on that day, the event had raised more than $26,000 from booth sales and online donations.

LKCMedicine hosted international delegates on both campuses
On 21 May, His Royal Highness Prince Daniel of Sweden visited the Experimental Medicine Building as part of his tour in Singapore and NTU. Accompanied by President of NTU Prof Subra Suresh and Ambassador of Sweden to Singapore His Excellency Niclas Kvarnström, Prince Daniel wanted to learn more about innovation and entrepreneurship at key NTU institutes. LKCMedicine showcased the School's innovative TBL pedagogy, and its cutting-edge Cognitive Neuroimaging Centre during the visit.

On 13 May, LKCMedicine hosted a delegation from Hallym University Medical Centre in South Korea. The delegation was introduced to TBL and given a tour of the School's facilities including the Practical Skills Laboratory and the Anatomy Learning Centre with the tour ending at the Medical Library where the delegation enjoyed the panoramic view of Singapore's Central Business District.

On 6 May, LKCMedicine hosted a delegation from Sichuan University, to exchange ideas and strategies. The School's leadership presented highlights of the School's MBBS programme and innovative curriculum and the delegation was impressed with the mindfulness and innovative ideas that LKCMedicine has put into planning the curriculum and training. The Sichuan University delegation also presented an overview of West China Hospital and West China School of Medicine at Sichuan University and welcomed LKCMedicine to visit their school. The visit rounded off with a tour of the CSB.

LKCMedicine staff wins NTU Admin Excellence Award (Merit)
On 16 May, LKCMedicine Education Management, Senior Assistant Director of Examinations and Assessments Ms Ang Wei Wei was awarded the prestigious NTU Admin Excellence Award (Merit) at the Admin Town Hall. Launched in November last year, the NTU Admin Excellence Awards honours employees who have gone above and beyond, and exemplify NTU values of Customer Focus, Collaboration, Respect, Trust and Integrity. Ms Ang has led the building of the exam and assessment team to a very high standard. This has won commendations from local and external examiners repeatedly. Congratulations to Wei Wei and the exam team!

LKCMedicine attracts hundreds during school visits
Last month, LKCMedicine attended several career fairs and talks at different schools to promote the LKCMedicine pedagogy and student life. On 2 May, LKCMedicine visited Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) for their Higher Education and Career Fair which saw some 250 visitors stop by the LKCMedicine booth to find out about the admission process and the link with Imperial College London. On 29 May, the LKCMedicine outreach team participated in the Career, Scholarships and Higher Education fairs at Dunman High School (DHS) and NUS High School, where students get to find out about the MBBS programme, admission, selection criteria, BMAT and TBL.

Pioneer cohort celebrates end of PGY1
On 29 May, LKCMedicine's pioneer cohort came together to celebrate the end of their PGY1. Twenty-four members of the Class of 2018 gathered in the Alumni Lounge to commemorate another milestone in their career, as they move on "to become baby MOs in the various departments", said Dr Leon Tan, President of the LKCMedicine Alumni Association. LKCMedicine Dean Professor James Best chanced upon the group as he was leaving the office and even took a photo of some of the happy alumni. "I came across this wonderful group having their first reunion back at their medical school! Great to see the venue being used and to see such a happy gathering!" he said. LKCMedicine Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs Professor Pang Weng Sun who was passing by was also roped in for a group photo. "It's great to see them crossing yet another milestone in their career, completing PGY1 and getting full registration. I am very happy for them," he said. Congratulations, Class of 2018!
