Experts: SPH and SPH Media Academy should assist journalists in mastering digital news data analysis

News presentation and digestion in the digital age is different from traditional media. Prof Ang Peng Hwa from NTU WKWSCI said that while journalists do not need to master data science techniques nor programming, they should understand what data and data analysis are. "Just like driving a car, you don't have to know how to repair a car, but you have to understand what the car needs...you have to understand how data can be used and understand its limitations." Prof Ang also hopes that the SPH Media Academy teaches content beyond technology such as ethics and critical thinking.
