Trend in elderly using TikTok

Short video platform TikTok has taken the world by storm in recent years. It has more than 1 billion monthly active users, majority of which are young people under the age of 35. However, in recent times, some seniors have joined the platform, learning to make short videos and even unexpectedly gaining popularity in the process.

Asst Prof Lou Chen from WKWSCI said one reason for this trend could be due to the pandemic. As people spend more time at home, they are able to interact more with their family member, especially the seniors. Shooting short videos together with the seniors can close the distance between them, she said.
