The COVID-19 pandemic has turbocharged the growth of mobile application TikTok over the last two years, leaving rivals such as Facebook struggling to play catch-up. In Singapore, a survey conducted by the Centre for Information Integrity and the Internet at NTU’s WKWSCI found that TikTok made “significant gains” in the number of users in the last two years as the pandemic raged. About 13.6 per cent of the survey participants said they used TikTok in December 2020, compared with 25.3 per cent saying they did so a year later.
