Academic: rumour-mongers get satisfaction from fake news

On the mentality of those who spread fake news, Assoc Prof Alton Chua from NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, who has done research on online rumours, said that rumour-mongers have the intention to mislead. They derive satisfaction from seeing the fake news they have created spread like wildfire, and this satisfaction far exceeds their sense of responsibility to tell the truth.
