Media pioneer heads advertising watchdog
The Straits Times, page B6
With decades of experience in law and media, Dr Ang Peng Hwa is perhaps uniquely qualified to head The Advertising Standards Authority of Singapore (ASAS) – the industry’s self-regulatory body – as its new chairman from last month. Dr Ang, a communications professor at NTU, is no stranger to the advertising world, having served as ASAS’ legal adviser for more than 20 years. He said, “We don’t go out looking for ads (to rule on), but we are proactive in making sure there are rules to protect consumers.” The eldest of three children, Dr Ang was among an “industrious batch” of law students at NUS which included former attorney-general V K Rajah, Senior Counsel Davinder Singh and Judges of Appeal Andrew Phang and Steven Chong.
