K-pop hotter than ever

The high turnover rate for South Korean pop music groups means the industry constantly feels fresh and helps it go well beyond Asian shores. Going by the rabid fan turnout at the HallyuPopFest music festival over the weekend, the demand for South Korean pop music, or K-pop, does not appear to be waning any time soon. NTU Asst Prof Liew Kai Khiun, who has research interests in pop culture, said, "The turnover rate for a K-pop group is around a decade or less. So BigBang and Super Junior of the 2000s would get superseded by BTS, Exo and Wanna One, which appeal collectively to the teens of the 2010s."
