​Facing challenges – and uncertainties: Exodus of artists from Mediacorp

More than 10 full-time artists have parted ways with broadcaster Mediacorp in the past year to seek new opportunities. While each cites his or her own reasons for leaving, many share at least one – the freedom to pursue other opportunities elsewhere. NTU Asst Prof Liew Kai Khiun, who has conducted research on pop culture, said Mediacorp does not hold the monopoly on broadcast media here anymore. He said, “Compared with a decade ago, Mediacorp is definitely facing significantly greater pressure, especially from Internet TV, which has expanded consumer choices significantly.”
