​Expert: Social media may cause children to lose direction and become extremely materialistic

One of the adverse effects of social media use on children is to make the child a materialistic person, especially if children are not given guidance or educational information in using digital media, an expert said. "It all affects mental health, self-confidence and the formation of values in children," said Prof May O Lwin, Associate Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at NTU Singapore, in a symposium held by Makara Human Behaviour Studies in Asia in Jakarta on Tuesday.
