Observers say that while spread of fake news will be slowed, there are ways to get around the restriction. Prof Ang Peng Hwa from NTU's WKWSCI cited a report suggesting that last year's Brazilian elections were affected by a misinformation campaign. "I can envisage tighter regulations for a time, say during an election's campaign period," he said, pointing to the report's suggestion that WhatsApp limit the size of new groups created during such periods.
