​Commentary: Is radio dead?

On World Radio Day today, Dr Kym Campbell, a senior lecturer at NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, discussed the chances of survival of the radio. Asking his students at WKWSCI if they thought radio to be dead, they replied, “not in the car”. Dr Campbell said though we are privileged to have podcasts and high-fidelity digital audio and the choice to listen to what we want, when we want and where we want, radio is unique, because of its ability to fill the space as we take on other tasks, like driving or sitting on a bus, and engaging, due to the effect and emotional power that this medium offers. He also said radio will continue to be alive and well.
