Helping Others Heal Through Words: Double Major Student Charis Liang’s Poems Resonate with Others.
Charis was awarded the inaugural NTU Talent Scholarship for her contributions to society.
Charis Liang (Year 3, Linguistics and Multilingual Studies & English), recipient of the inaugural NTU Talent Scholarship, shares about her journey battling mental health struggles through her first published compilation – a collection of poetry chronicling experiences of Asian women and their stories. Having battling with depression, Charis hopes that her words can bring comfort to others and help them heal.

Adding on to her double major workload, Charis also pursued a Minor in Creative Writing and a URECA project to develop her craft. Dr. Boey Kim Cheng (published poet and formerly an Associate Professor with NTU English) says, “In my poetry class, her works were similar to that of an accomplished poet, but she was humble and eager to hone them further."
Charis keeps busy and finds purpose in using her talents to help youths. She runs poetry workshops, leads a Singapore literature youth magazine, and works as an advertising writer, a translator, and a voiceover artist.
