Associate Professor Barrie Sherwood
Director, Master of Arts in Creative Writing and Publishing

Creative writing is a form of artistic expression that communicates meaning and explores experience using literary techniques and elements. The study of Creative Writing extends the boundary of professional, journalistic and academic writing into the imaginative. In addition to learning valuable writing skills, the study of creative writing encourages problem solving and innovation.

Publishing is the business of producing or selling a book, magazine or newspaper. With developments in technology, the study of publishing also demands attention to the production of texts in digital and multi-media forms including e-books, podcasts, online and digital games and audio books. Creative writing and publishing have become increasingly interdependent given new technologies and business models.

The Master of Arts in Creative Writing and Publishing programme at NTU aims to provide a holistic, skills-based education at a deeper level. This programme is designed to provide students with an opportunity to develop industry relevant, employment ready, creative writing and publishing skills that will play an important role in developing their professional careers in creative writing and publishing.
