An SMU research found that most elderly tried to adjust their lifestyles to get used to the new norms caused by Covic-19, with gradual improvement in their mental health since the circuit breaker. Another research by NTU WKWSCI revealed that young Singaporeans were concerned that misinformation about Covid-19 would mislead the elderly, and cared more about stopping the spread of such fake news than the health threat of the pandemic itself. Assoc Prof Edson Tandoc Jr from NTU said: “Studying initial public reaction towards a health crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic could guide practitioners and social policy makers on how to handle the outbreak in the long term. An important consideration from these findings is how to make young people who think they are not prone to Covid-19 to be still engaging in proactive behaviours against the virus. This is even more important during the initial phase of the pandemic, where credible information about the new virus was scarce.”
