A new survey of over 1,200 Singaporeans conducted by NTU found that while more than 50 per cent said they know about deepfakes, a third of them reported sharing such content on social media before realising it was a hoax. When interviewed, members of the public had mixed reactions to deepfake apps. Some said they would try out the apps out of curiosity, while others were concerned that the uploaded photos required for the app will be stolen by criminals and become the target of fraud.
