Commentary: Why normally decisive parents worry about vaccinating young children against COVID-19

Parents see themselves as protectors and need more reassurances when deciding for their children instead of for themselves, say NTU Centre for Information Integrity and the Internet’s Assoc Prof Edson C Tandoc Jr, Prof May O Lwin, Asst Prof Akshar Saxena, Asst Prof Kim Hye Kyung and Dr Goh Zhang Hao. Parents seem more unsure about vaccinating younger children because of the possible side effects and whether the risks outweigh the benefits. This anxiety stems from parents caring about their children. Thus, more must be done to understand and allay parents’ fears instead of instinctively judging them.
