Spurred by the challenges of change management and Covid-19, internal communications is emerging from the crypt—but will the interest endure? Ferry de Bakker, a lecturer NTU Singapore, recently partnered with Edelman and Mercer in a qualitative study into the changing nature of employee engagement. He says a finding that stood out was that more companies are striving to make sense of cultural differences between their employees. He sees an overdue shift away from the assumption of American multinationals that people share their culture regardless of nationality - even if some Asian companies appear to be repeating their mistakes.
