NTU study: Among five Southeast Asian countries, Singaporeans generally care about nuclear energy news

A qualitative study by NTU found that Singaporeans generally care about news related to nuclear energy, especially when nuclear accidents happen, or when neighbouring countries announce plans to set up nuclear power plants. The NTU team felt that the Southeast Asian countries have a symbiotic relationship; communicating nuclear-related news effectively can help in increasing Singaporeans’ awareness to regional nuclear development, and cope better with any nuclear topics. Assoc Prof Shirley Ho from Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, who led the study, said it is better for people to know more about the benefits and risks of nuclear power plants rather than rejecting it due to a lack of knowledge.
