As times change, it is important for Chinese media to continue maintaining public trust and social responsibility, instead of blindly following trends, said experts who came together to discuss the challenges faced by Chinese broadcast media and the opportunities ahead. NTU Emeritus Prof Eddie Kuo said everyone should play the role of a gatekeeper and be responsible for his own speech. The various voices on the Internet may have weakened the influence of traditional media, but Prof Kuo believes that it is more important than ever for traditional media to stick to their role. Too many different voices on the Internet have weakened the influence of traditional media, but traditional media should stick to their posts at this time, because there are fewer and fewer mechanisms to play a check and balance role.
