“Understanding data is only the beginning. What matters is how we translate that knowledge into solutions that improve the way people work.”
Data has always fascinated me, particularly its ability to uncover insights and inform business decisions. Having started my career in accountancy and auditing, I wanted to understand not just how to analyse data, but how information is managed and transformed into meaningful insights. This led me to pursue the Master of Science in Information Studies (IS), where I could explore the entire data lifecycle and build a stronger foundation in information management and analytics.
One of my most memorable modules explored disinformation and misinformation, which challenged how I thought about the power of data. I learnt that even factually accurate information can be presented in misleading ways, reinforcing the importance of critical thinking and the responsibility that comes with managing and communicating information.
In my role as a Data Analyst in the Internal Audit Department at Maybank Singapore, I actively apply what I learnt about the data lifecycle in the IS programme to transform our daily operations. Whether developing autonomous AI agents, designing a Jira-based platform for audit issue tracking, or driving the adoption of tools like Microsoft 365 Copilot, I focus on creating solutions that streamline how our department organises, manages, and acts upon complex information.
Beyond these projects, one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been sharing my knowledge with others. I recently mentored an intern through eight automation and chatbot projects while coaching colleagues in data analytics. These experiences have shown me that the value of technical knowledge lies not only in developing solutions, but also in making them accessible and helping others apply them in their own work.
