Master of Media and Communication, 2024

Education Policy, Ministry of Education, Singapore

“MMC gave me the foundation and confidence to make a career pivot into communications.”

Coming from a background in music, moving into communications and marketing was a major shift. I initially learnt on the job, but as my interest in the field grew, I wanted to build a stronger foundation. The Master of Media and Communication (MMC) offered the mix of practical skills, industry knowledge and application I was looking for.

Two modules that stood out to me were Persuasive Technology and Media Communication, which introduced me to UX design and how communication can be shaped through technological design, and Communication, Technology & Society, which encouraged me to engage with complex ideas and consider issues from different perspectives. Being encouraged to question, discuss and work through these ideas changed the way I approached learning and expanded how I thought about communication.

Coming into MMC without a formal communications background also gave me the opportunity to build confidence in a new field. The encouragement received and the experience I gained throughout the programme bolstered my confidence and I even went on to graduate at the top of my cohort.

Today, in education policy, I draw on what I learnt in MMC to communicate complex issues with greater nuance, understand the needs of different stakeholders and consider multiple perspectives. Beyond equipping me with practical skills, the programme gave me the confidence and perspective to pursue a different professional direction.
