Exploring Language Teaching for Content Subjects Across Disciplines: MUST Delegation Visits NTU's LCC
On 27 April 2026, the Language and Communication Centre (LCC) at SoH, NTU, welcomed a faculty delegation from Minghsin University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Taiwan. The visit focused particularly on learning how language skills can be effectively tailored to meet the needs of STEM university students via ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and EMI (English-Medium Instruction).
The visit was organised by SoH's Communications and Community Engagement (CCE) in response to a request from the MUST delegation, to discuss best practices in integrating disciplinary content and technology in language education across institutions.
Led by Professor Stella Chao Tzu-Chia, Dean of the College of Humanities and Design at MUST, the delegation, which included faculty from MUST's Colleges of Engineering, Management, and Humanities and Design, sought insights into NTU's approaches to integrating language teaching into technical and scientific curricula.
LCC Director Dr. Angela Frattarola chaired the meeting, opening with a comprehensive overview of LCC's key language initiatives and foundational courses. Dr. Jean Lee and Dr. Hsieh Yi-Chin shared their language teaching principles and practices in ESP and EMI, touching briefly on the use of technology and AI.
A lively discussion ensued about integrating content teaching into language learning, as well as potential collaboration opportunities between the two institutions.
The visit concluded with a short tour of the UOB Innovation Hub. SoH's CCE and LCC thank the MUST delegation for their visit and look forward to exploring future partnerships that advance language teaching for university students across STEM and other disciplines.
